About the Author

Lisbon, Fall 2018

Hi, I’m Jordan Weyenberg. Thanks for visiting, and thanks for letting me talk about myself.

I’m currently writing from Seattle, where I’ve been for several years working on several teams at Amazon. I’ve always worked in tech in some capacity, but I really can’t code to save my life. I’m a classic “general athlete” whose curiosity leads to learning a lot about otherwise-random things. Because the TV importing industry isn’t the most glamorous thing to write about, I’m writing about ingredients.

Why Mixing Ingredients?

Home bartending has become a passion over the last several years, and the deeper I’ve gone the more curious I’ve become about the things that actually make a drink delicious. Millions of pages have been written on whiskey, and I’ve read a lot of them, but what about vermouth? How can one piece of a Manhattan be so well documented and the other may as well not exist? That’s the gap I’m trying to fill.

This isn’t limited to booze (though that’s where I’ll start); I want to apply this format to just about anything I find interesting. I want to explore the lesser-known parts of a whole to better-understand the world.

Personal Context

I’m married. My wife Mary works in consumer packaged food brand management. She is smarter, better-looking, and a much, much better cook than me. She grew up in Phoenix, and we spend a good amount of time there.

I grew up in the middle-of-nowhere-Indiana. Goshen, to be specific. I grew up raising livestock (mostly sheep). I left home for school in Bloomington (Go Hoosiers!!) and then moved to Chicago (Go Blackhawks!) for a few years. I’m definitely a Midwesterner.

I studied abroad in Florence (Forza Fiorentina!) during my Junior year. It’s probably the experience that’s most-colored my writing and worldview. My wife and I still travel as much as possible (she studied in Barcelona).

I’m mostly an endurance athlete. I was a good runner in high school and a good cyclist in college. Now I just try to stay in shape and find an excuse to be outside (preferably in the mountains, and best if on skis). I’m also learning to golf…
