What’s Next Here at Mixing Ingredients

It’s been a minute. There’s a lot to blame for that, but here’s the short version:

I created this blog to escape from a job I really didn’t like and give my passion for writing and making drinks an outlet. It worked! But, with the pandemic, I didn’t need work escapism, I needed pure escapism. Anything that felt like work was a no-go. And the blog (and the brand) felt like work. But, it’s been calling to me again recently. But I want to do things differently this time.

I thought I could break into “cocktail Instagram” when I started the blog. I can’t. That’s not my thing. I’m not a #content person or a photographer. I’m a writer. So, I started to look at what y’all actually read on the blog, and there are clear trends. These are my top 3 posts, with everything else far back in the distance:

  1. Weird Booze History – What Do You Want, an Egg in Your Beer?
  2. Cynar – All It’s Choked Up to Be
  3. French Onion Cocktail – What to Drink When You’re Cooking with Vermouth

Those aren’t the posts that yielded my “best” pictures, but they’re probably the best stories! It’s all focused on weird history, strange ingredients, and how to use a bottle you’ve opened for some other purpose. That’s what I want to write about!

So, the stories will be better (and, almost certainly, fewer), and the pictures will be more basic. The IG will be simple, no more big hashtag games, just sharing recipes that I like.

That’s the brand now. I’m excited to get back at it.
